Walker Ambassador - Tim Macartney-Snape
Australia's best known mountaineer is a veteran of pioneering routes
in remote regions of the Himalaya but became known for his attempts of
Mount Everest on two very different, pioneering expeditions. Remarkably
he reached the summit on both occasions, without the use of bottled oxygen
and in a style and substance way beyond the realm of the guided ascents
so popular in recent times.
As well as his extensive Himalayan experience Tim has climbed in Australia,
Africa and South America. He trained as a biologist at the Australian
National University, is also a qualified outdoor instructor, the author
of several books, is active in business and promoting the biological explanation
of the human condition.
In encouraging new walkers to get involved in the Great Australian Bushwalk,
Tim says, "You don't have to climb Mount Everest to discover the
benefits of bushwalking. There are no heavy packs to carry, no expensive
footwear or clothing required, and it's the best way to discover our spectacular
natural environment while keeping fit and meeting new people."
